A hiking route to the Mirador Alto do Cotro begins at the church esplanade in the village of A Igrexa. The village is located in the municipality of Negreira, and parking is available at the starting point. The route leads to the Mirador Alto do Cotro in the parish of Santa Cruz de Campolongo.

At the Mirador Alto do Cotro, views open up over the estuary of the Tambre and the outlet of the Noia estuary. In clear weather, the roofs of A Cidade da Cultura can also be seen. The viewpoint thus combines the aforementioned waterscapes with a visible architectural reference.

From there, the route descends along the banks of the Rego do Vao da Denociña. It then reaches the Santa Leocadia waterfall. On the further ascent to the Chacín waterfall, the path runs through Santa Baia.

After crossing the river, the route leads to the chapel of Santa Leocadia and San Blas.

The route therefore connects several clearly named landscape features: the Mirador Alto do Cotro, the estuary of the Tambre, the outlet of the Noia estuary, and the banks of the Rego do Vao da Denociña. In addition, there are the two waterfalls, Santa Leocadia and Chacín, as well as the section through Santa Baia. After the viewpoint, the route initially descends before the onward path to the Chacín waterfall climbs again.

The starting point at the church esplanade marks the beginning of this sequence. From A Igrexa, the path first leads to the viewpoint in Santa Cruz de Campolongo. A clear view of the roofs of A Cidade da Cultura depends on the visibility conditions, while the two named estuaries are part of the view from the Mirador. After crossing the river, the chapel of Santa Leocadia and San Blas lies along the continuation of the route.

Culture and local context

In the surrounding area of A Igrexa, the parish church of Campolongo is considered to have a medieval character; its exact construction date is unknown. The building has a rectangular floor plan and a main nave with a gabled roof.

The façade is simple in design. It features a wooden entrance door and a rectangular window. The church does not have a bell tower. Instead, a simple bell gable with one bell stands above the building.

A Igrexa belongs to Campolongo (Santa Cruz). The municipal festival calendar lists the Virxe do Carmen celebration there for 2 September.
