Discover Quintáns: Pazo de Quintáns, Galleries and Routes

The Pazo de Quintáns complex consists of a large residential building with several sections constructed at different times.

Other places on the same level are Loiba, Neda, Tarrío, Pardaces de Arriba, Figueiroa, Pasarela, Manón and Sesa De Abaixo.

Culture

The pazo includes a rear corridor that was added in the 20th century. Pazo de Quintáns is surrounded by a stone wall decorated with battlements. This wall contains a wooden gate topped by a cross.

Outside the enclosure, a round dovecote on an adjoining property also belongs to the pazo. The tower of the pazo has two galleries in its upper section. The lower of the two upper galleries has an iron railing. The higher gallery has a wooden railing.

The tallest building in the pazo belongs to the oldest construction phase of the complex. This building was intended to serve as a tower. The pazo is currently the owners’ usual residence.

The building complex therefore preserves various structural elements and features: the residential building comprises several sections, the rear corridor was added only in the 20th century, and the tallest building belongs to the oldest phase. The two galleries are located in the upper section of the tower and differ in having iron and wooden railings, respectively.

Pilgrimage connections

Pazo de Quintáns is associated with the Camino de Fisterra-Muxía. It is also associated with the coastal route Camino Portugués de la costa. In addition, the pazo is associated with the Route del Mar de Arousa y Ulla.

The three route connections mentioned are each directly linked to Pazo de Quintáns. The Camino de Fisterra-Muxía, the Camino Portugués de la costa and the Route del Mar de Arousa y Ulla are therefore listed as separate associations.

Events

A course was scheduled for 2026 at the Aula da Natureza in the village of Quintáns. It was an advanced basket-weaving course held on six Saturdays in February and March. The craftsperson Luís do Río Pena led the course.

Gathering plant material in the area around the River Sar was part of obtaining the materials. The course thus combined basket weaving with plant material from the immediate surroundings of the River Sar.

As part of an autumn programme, two guided mushroom walks in October and another in November were scheduled at the Aula da Natureza in the village of Quintáns; the activity was open to everyone.

Three autumn cooking workshops were also scheduled at the Aula da Natureza in the village of Quintáns. At these workshops, pumpkin, chestnuts and oranges were to serve as the basis for the recipes. The cooking sessions therefore focused on three explicitly named ingredients: pumpkin, chestnuts and oranges.
