Talayuela: Nature, Culture and Golf

In Talayuela, the Senda Pinares del Tiétar runs along the southern bank of the Tiétar River and through the Pinares del Tiétar Ecological and Biodiversity Corridor, as well as the LIC Río Tiétar. The trail passes through extensive pine forests with a great variety of protected animal and plant species. For trip planning, riverbanks, pine forest and dehesa can be viewed as distinct landscape focuses.

Nature

After the breeding season, black storks gather in concentrations in the ZEPA Río y Pinares del Tiétar. Egyptian vultures are among the most common birds of prey in the ZEPA. The seasonal reference to the breeding season and the different landscape forms offer different perspectives on nature without requiring a fixed itinerary.

Trails

The surface of the R25 Camino de los Jerónimos is clearly defined. The trail is mostly flat, has gentle inclines and predominantly consists of a firm dirt surface with some gravel sections. It passes through dehesa landscapes with holm oaks, cork oaks and native wildlife. The trail begins at the junction of the EX-119 and the road coming from Calle San Marcos in Talayuela. Surface, gradient and landscape type can be given separate consideration when planning your own route.

Culture

The Iglesia de San Martín in Talayuela was presumably begun in the mid-16th century and completed in 1574. Its walls are made of granite ashlar, and it also has two Renaissance portals. The most important item inside the Iglesia de San Martín in Talayuela is a Neoclassical altarpiece from the early 17th century. Those interested in culture can distinguish between architecture, interior furnishings and art in public spaces.

Talayuela was one of the places involved in the Muro Crítico initiative, through which works of art were created on municipal walls and façades. This means that the view of culture extends from historic architectural elements to artistic works on walls and façades.

Golf

Talayuela Golf was designed by Severiano Ballesteros, has 18 holes and is the first public golf course in Extremadura. Those who regard golf as a separate travel focus can consider this aspect independently of nature and culture topics.
