History

Los Mármoles comprises the remains of two temples from the ancient Roman city of Augustóbriga. The temple remains were recovered before being covered by the waters of Valdecañas Reservoir. A considerably older trace is the Dolmen del Pibor, which dates from the 3rd to 2nd millennium BC. The municipality of Bohonal de Ibor is home to numerous prehistoric dolmen, particularly in the area around El Pibor.

Trails and Landscape

The Senda El Pibor leads to the area where the Ibor and Tajo rivers meet and combines a landscape experience with prehistoric cultural heritage, including the Dolmen del Pibor. One stage of the Camino Natural del Tajo begins in Bohonal de Ibor and runs along the CC-19 road to the Ibor River near the Puente de las Veredas. Los Mármoles offers expansive views over Valdecañas Reservoir.
