Discover Moraleja: Art, Nature and History

Moraleja offers a visit along a marked route through the town: “RuteAndo Moraleja” is a 1.3 km circular walk marked with ground tiles for exploring the tourist attractions. It begins at Plaza España and ends at the Ermita de las Angustias. Those who wish to consider the route, buildings, natural sites and local traditions separately will find several clearly recognisable points of access for this purpose.

Culture and History

In “Moraleja Puerta en Puerta”, painted doors and windows form a permanent art gallery. The tower of the Iglesia Parroquial Nuestra Señora de la Piedad is its most interesting and best-preserved part. The Iglesia Parroquial Nuestra Señora de la Piedad houses a small carved figure of the Virgen de los Desamparados from the 16th century. El Puente has a total of 14 arches of different sizes and designs. The Rollo Picota is a monumental testament to the historic privilege of the Villa de Moraleja to administer justice. The cultural stops differ clearly in their subject matter and form.

Nature

The landscape within the municipality of Moraleja is predominantly flat. The Parque Fluvial Feliciano Vegas offers recreational areas, picnic areas, outdoor showers, extensive shaded areas and parking spaces. The Piscina Natural de Moraleja is located in this Parque Fluvial Feliciano Vegas within the municipality and just a few metres from the town centre. At the turn-off to the Molino and the bridge of El Chorreón, there is a picturesque spot with a rest area. El Chorreón is considered the main attraction of the PR CC 187 “Ruta al Chorreón” hiking trail. The PR CC 187 “Ruta al Chorreón” hiking trail begins at the end of Calle Cañadas next to the secondary school. The combination of flat landscape, natural swimming pool, rest area and hiking trail opens up different possibilities for planning the day.

Festivals and Birdlife

Since 2012, Moraleja has hosted the ornithological days “Moraleja Vuela”, which focus on cranes and other birds. The Fiestas de San Buenaventura have a history spanning more than 100 years and centre on the bull. During the Fiestas de San Buenaventura, six young bulls are driven along a 680-metre route from the Corrales to the Plaza de Toros in the town centre. Nature observation and festival tradition set different thematic accents.

The range of experiences described can be read without a fixed order. A marked route, a hiking trail, a natural swimming pool, birdwatching and a long-standing fiesta represent different ways of discovering Moraleja. You can decide which of these forms will be at the centre of your personal travel direction without excluding the other topics.

When comparing holiday apartments in Moraleja, check the travel period, type of accommodation and cancellation conditions on the respective offer pages. These three fields can be compared independently of your thematic travel direction.
