Cordobilla de Lácara Among Reservoirs and Cultural Heritage
In Cordobilla de Lácara, a circular hiking route leads to the ruins of Castillo de Castellanos, through a cork oak forest, past the pilgrimage chapel and along part of the Embalse de Horno Tejero reservoir.
Water and Nature
Along with the Embalse de Boquerón, the Embalse de Horno Tejero is one of two small reservoirs near Cordobilla de Lácara on the Lácara watercourse.
Horno Tejero is considered an area where, among other species, Eurasian griffon vultures, Egyptian vultures, Spanish imperial eagles, peregrine falcons and eagle owls are regularly found.
For planning purposes, the waterscape, birdlife and hiking can be considered as separate topics without combining them into a single activity.
Culture and History
The parish church of San Pedro Apóstol is a small single-nave church with a square, vaulted chancel and dates back to the 15th century.
It contains an archaic-looking sculpture of John the Baptist, dated to the 16th century.
The movable cultural assets of the parish church of San Pedro Apóstol in Cordobilla de Lácara have been classified as being of historic and artistic interest.
Castillo de Castellanos, also known as Castillo Mohedano or Castillo de Moheda, is associated with the village of Cordobilla de Lácara.
It is located 5 km north of Cordobilla de Lácara; a visit is planned.
The Pozo del camino del Chorrero is one of Cordobilla de Lácara’s traditional points of interest.
You can focus your days on a route, individual buildings or specific dates, and compare these aspects separately.
Pilgrimage and Dates
The pilgrimage chapel dedicated to Saints Justus and Pastor, locally known as “Los Santitos”, is situated in an unspoilt landscape.
On the first Sunday in May, the chapel is the venue for a pilgrimage; the Romería de Los Santitos takes place on that day on the private El Cuadrado-El Santo estate.
Prior permission from the owners is required to access this private estate.
During the Romería de Los Santitos, pilgrims attend Mass in the pilgrimage chapel; families traditionally gather beneath holm oaks in groups known as “ranchos”.
The patron saint festivities of Los Santitos are associated with 6 and 7 August.
