Culture

The Ciutat ibèrica del Molí d'Espígol is one of the most remarkable testimonies to the Iberian tribe of the Ilergetes. The Ciutat ibèrica del Molí d'Espígol was surrounded by a large wall. The site had an organised urban system. This included paved streets and squares, water-control facilities and various types of houses. Other components included a production quarter and a silo field.

The parish church of Santa Maria dates from the 12th, 13th and 14th centuries. It displays both Romanesque and vernacular styles. The Església parroquial de Santa Maria has a basilica-style floor plan with a single nave, two side chapels and a low choir. The choir ceiling is supported by four round arches. The altarpiece of the Mare de Déu with the Child is made of polychromed wood. It dates from 1349.

The church combines several clearly identifiable architectural features with a long period of development. The floor plan consists of the single nave, the two side chapels and the low choir; above these, the choir ceiling is supported by four round arches. The altarpiece adds a distinct furnishing element made of polychromed wood to these architectural details.
