Culture

The monumental ensemble in the village centre of Son consists of the Romanesque parish church of Sants Just i Pastor. The ensemble is classified as a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional. At the Centre de Documentació dels Pirineus (CEDPIR) in Son, various exhibitions offer visitors direct insights into the Romanesque art of Pallars and the traditional way of life. The permanent exhibition “MENTRE LO MÓN SERÀ MÓN” uses photographs, documents and historical objects. It conveys the history, culture and traditions of the high-altitude mountain villages. The Central i molí fariner de Son offers guided tours. Prior booking is required for these tours. The various forms of exhibition combine visual material, written documents and historical objects with an insight into a monumental building and a tour of the mill. In this way, alongside Romanesque art, the traditional way of life of the mountain villages remains visible in Son’s cultural offerings.

Experiences

The “El camí del gat salvatge” route runs around MónNatura Pirineus in Son. It is approximately 2 km long. The activity of the same name uses a mobile app and a map. With these tools, participants follow the tracks of the wildcat. “El camí del gat salvatge” has ten interpretation points. These focus on the landscape of the Planes de Son. The route therefore combines a walking trail with digital and cartographic orientation tools. Its ten points direct attention to the landscape, while tracking the wildcat forms the central theme of the activity.

At MónNatura Pirineus in Son, the activity “Què ens amaga el sol?” uses solar telescopes at the astronomical observatory to observe two layers of the sun. The activity “Observem els voltors” includes a walk to an observation hide. From there, various vultures can be observed in their habitat. The activity “Fauna nocturna” takes participants into complete darkness. There, they hear the sounds of the night and discover nocturnal animals. The activity “Els rius de l’almesquera” examines the characteristics of a mountain stream. The indicator animals living there are also observed. The focus is on whether the Pyrenean desman can live in the Riera del Tinter. The observations therefore range from the astronomical observatory and the vulture hide to the nocturnal world of sounds and the mountain stream Riera del Tinter. Each activity incorporates a specific setting: layers of the sun, the habitat of various vultures, nocturnal animals, or the characteristics of the stream and its indicator animals.

The summit of lo Tésol is located in the area around Son. The summit of Cabeza de la Cornanta is also located in the area around Son. The summit of les Agudes is likewise situated in the area around Son. The summit of Pui de Linya is located in the same area. The four named summits are therefore each situated in the area around Son and complement the village’s nature-related impressions with distinctive summit destinations.
