Culture and history

The permanent exhibitions at the Museu Comarcal de l'Urgell cover Iberian prehistory and medieval Tàrrega. Other parts of the permanent exhibitions are dedicated to the state rooms of Cal Perelló and the city's art history from 1875 to 1965.

The Museu Comarcal de l'Urgell is located in the former residence of the Perelló family. This residence is a town palace dating from the late 17th century.

On the first Sunday of each month, at 10:30 a.m., the Museu Comarcal offers a guided tour of the exhibition “Tragèdia al call. Tàrrega 1348” and the city's Jewish quarter. The exhibition presents and contextualises archaeological materials from the excavation sites of the Jewish necropolis of Les Roquetes and from deposits in the Jewish quarter that formed as a result of the attack.

The Museu Comarcal therefore brings together several historical layers: Iberian prehistory, medieval Tàrrega, the history of the Jewish quarter and the city's development from 1875 to 1965.

Tàrrega emerged around the 11th century as a medieval town and vegueria around the castle in the valley of the Ondara River.

Architecture

The first agricultural machines for threshing, mowing and binding were designed at the preserved J. Trepat factory complex in Tàrrega. They were also manufactured and sold there.

The Ruta del modernisme takes visitors through Tàrrega to the city's most important Modernista buildings. They were built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Casa Sobies was built between 1909 and 1910. The building is considered an example of Arts and Crafts architecture.

The Antiga Farinera Balcells is an example of Modernista industrial architecture.

The interior of the church of Santa Maria de l'Alba contains frescoes by Jaume Minguell Miret and Josep Minguell Cardeñes.

The architectural routes through Tàrrega thus bring together different types of buildings: a preserved factory complex, Modernista residential and industrial buildings, and a church interior with frescoes.

Nature and trails

The Parc de Sant Eloi in Tàrrega covers 17 hectares. Its collection of trees and shrubs comprises around 70 species.

The nature trails in the municipality of Tàrrega are suitable for hiking and mountain-bike excursions (BTT). The routes are easy and accessible to everyone.

The Parc de Sant Eloi and the nature trails represent two different landscape settings within the municipality: on the one hand, the 17-hectare park with its approximately 70 species of trees and shrubs; on the other, routes for hiking and BTT.

Events and visitor attractions

FiraTàrrega presents performances at more than twenty venues spread throughout the city. The venues are located both indoors and in open-air settings.

Mas de Colom – Casa Borges is an immersive, educational visitor centre. It is located in a former masia in Tàrrega.
