Lladurs – Nature, History and Hiking Trails

In the municipality of Lladurs, the protected natural area E.I.N. Ribera Salada covers 147.5 hectares. Within the municipality of Lladurs, the protected natural area E.I.N. Serra de Busa-els Bastets-Lord covers 150.9 hectares. Lladurs features large gorges and depressions shaped by the varying erosion caused by the rivers, particularly in the Ribera Salada basin. In the part of E.I.N. Ribera Salada belonging to Lladurs, there are prominent rocky ridges and stony soils where permanent plant communities, holm oaks and boxwood grow.

Trails along the Ribera Salada

The Ribera Salada / Pont del Clop route offers opportunities for swimming in the river and exploring gorges and hidden sections of the river. The route along the Ribera Salada crosses the Pont de la Ginegrosa, an 18th-century bridge. The GR-7-5 passes through Hostal del Pla, Pla de Riat, Olius and Solsona; the route is 15.9 km long, with an approximate duration of 3 hours and 55 minutes. From the Pla de Riart viewpoint, there are panoramic views of Canalda, the mountain ranges of Odèn and Port del Comte, and the conglomerate rocks of Vilamala. The Castell de Lladurs i Creu de la Contrella route is 12.6 km long, is a circular trail and is of moderate difficulty; its stated duration is 4 hours and 15 minutes. A short walk of approximately 10 minutes leads to Castell de Lladurs and the church of Sant Martí, which survives today as a ruin.

Culture and History

Balma de la Llera is a Copper Age burial site with several burials and decorated Bell Beaker vessels. In the northeast of the municipality of Lladurs lies Les Portes, a prehistoric rock shelter with evidence of use dating from the Neolithic period to the present day. Santa Eulàlia de Timoneda is a 12th-century Romanesque church and is highlighted as a place of interest. Sant Sadurní de Llena is a 12th-century church and is highlighted as a place of interest. Until the new building was erected in 1928, the church of Santa Maria de Lladurs was a subsidiary church of Sant Martí; it then became the parish church. Inside is a distinctive Baroque depiction of the Madonna nursing the Child. At Creu de la Contrella, the stone base was restored at the end of 2021; a new cross was erected in memory of the former wooden cross. Lladurs's Festa Major takes place on the last Sunday in July and includes the Caramelles and the Ball Pla.

Practical information

There is a small picnic area at Fonts de Lladurs. A private vehicle is required to travel between the settlements in Lladurs; there is no public transport.
