Les Borges Blanques is home to the Espai Macià, an interpretation centre about Francesc Macià. It preserves, presents and disseminates documentary, graphic, audiovisual and personal heritage related to Francesc Macià.
The different materials make the site a combination of historical presentation and personal memory. Documents, graphic records, audiovisual content and personal objects all belong to the same thematic context and complement the study of Francesc Macià through several forms of expression.
Culture
The Museo de Casa Pauet presents school life in the 1950s and 1960s through games, schoolbooks, cinema, comics and toys. Groups can request visits to the Museo de Casa Pauet by telephone or email.
The collection therefore combines education and leisure: schoolbooks are displayed alongside games, comics and toys, while cinema is also part of the everyday life depicted. The reference to the 1950s and 1960s gives the objects on display a clearly defined historical framework.
The Museo de Arqueología displays materials from various archaeological sites in the comarca. The materials on display span the period from the Neolithic to the early Roman imperial period.
The archaeological perspective thus covers a long period and includes both the prehistoric Neolithic era and the early Roman imperial period. The materials come from various sites in the comarca and do not represent just a single location.
History
Cal Gineret is a former oil mill dating from the late 19th century. During the Spanish Civil War, Cal Gineret served as an air-raid shelter. Visits to Cal Gineret can be arranged by telephone appointment with the town council.
Cal Gineret therefore brings together two historical uses of the same building. Its former function as an oil mill refers to the local processing of olives, while its later use during the Spanish Civil War was connected with protection from air raids.
The olive oil tradition of Les Borges Blanques continues today under the Nortoliva brand.
Nortoliva thus represents the continuation of a tradition that is also evident in the history of Cal Gineret. The connection between the former oil mill and the present-day brand preserves the theme of olive oil across different historical periods.
Nature
Paseo del Terrall is a central green space with two ponds and waterfowl. It also includes a garden with a wide variety of plants and trees. An old olive press dating from the 17th century is located in Paseo del Terrall.
The green space brings together water features, waterfowl, garden areas and older evidence of olive oil production in one place. The plants and trees are complemented by a historical element: the old olive press from the 17th century.
