Maiá de Montcal: Churches, Landscape and Trails

Maiá de Montcal lies at the foot of the 546-metre-high Montcal. The Fluvià River runs through the village. Between the mountain, the river course and the rural paths in the surrounding area are historic churches, an ensemble with castle ruins and individual structures whose history dates back to the Middle Ages.

Churches and Cultural Heritage

In the historic centre of Maiá de Montcal, in the district known as veïnat de la Cellera, stands the Església de Sant Vicenç. The church dates from the 12th century. Its door retains a wrought-iron bar that probably dates from the same period as the construction of the church. The historic centre thus combines the character of the designated historic district with a preserved detail of the medieval church.

In Dosquers stands the Església de Sant Martí de Dosquers. It is a Romanesque single-nave church with a semicircular apse. The historic ensemble of Dosquers in Maiá de Montcal also includes the remains of a castle. The pre-Romanesque bridge of Dosquers in Maiá de Montcal is catalogued as a cultural asset of cultural and local interest.

Landscape
