Culture and Industrial History

The Barri Antic d'Anglès is a historic district designated as a Bé Cultural d’Interès Nacional (BCIN). Its architectural and historical layers span the Middle Ages, Gothic period, Noucentisme and Modernisme. One of the most distinctive streets in the historic district is Carrer d’Avall.

The Burés steam engine is an object of Catalan industrial archaeology recognised as a Bé Cultural d’Interès Nacional (BCIN). It was manufactured in 1900 by Maquinista Terrestre y Marítima de Barcelona. The installation consists of a boiler and a 200-horsepower Corliss engine.

The Colònia Tèxtil Burés was founded in 1887 by the company “Burés i Salvadó”. It was used to manufacture cotton fabrics and cotton yarns. The factory complex comprised three parallel halls, a perpendicular hall for offices and services, and two residential blocks for employees.

Les Mines del Sant Pare preserve the ruins of the former warehouses belonging to the mining company. The surviving remains also include the houses of its miners and managers. The mines received their name because the Holy See owned them for several years in the past.

The La Burés exhibition space presents the history of Anglès in three thematic areas: the population, the use of natural resources and life in the factory. The steam engine can also be viewed there.

Other places you can discover on this page include Sant Llorenç De La Muga, Viladamat, Palau Saverdera, Garrigoles, Aiguaviva, Vilobí D'onyar, Cassà De La Selva and Serinyà.
