Volcanic Landscape

The Volcà de la Crosa has a 1,250-metre-wide crater with a distinctive C shape.

The Volta al Volcà, the official 5-kilometre circular route, runs around the Volcà de la Crosa. The walking time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes; there are five geological points of interest along the route. The trail therefore connects the striking crater shape with other geological stations. When hiking, the trail length and approximate walking time help estimate the timeframe before setting off. For hikes with an approximate walking time and a set trail length, planning the time is part of the preparation; current trail conditions should be checked before departure. On routes with several geological points of interest, the available time can also take individual observation breaks into account.

Les Guilloteres has a car park and a viewpoint overlooking the crater of the Volcà de la Crosa to the southeast, as well as forests and cultivated areas to the north and west. Les Guilloteres is a former site for the extraction of volcanic aggregates that has now been converted into an interpretation centre for the Volcà de la Crosa. The former extraction site and its current use thus belong to the same volcanic landscape. For interpretation centres, current opening hours should be checked before travelling.

Culture and History

The Ermita de Santa Margarida in Vilobí d’Onyar is a rectangular single-nave chapel of Romanesque tradition. In the historic centre of Vilobí d’Onyar, the structure of a formerly fortified medieval Sagrera has been preserved. The chapel and town centre thus represent two different historical forms within Vilobí d’Onyar.

There are three museums in the surroundings of Vilobí d’Onyar: the Museu de l'Aigua, the Fundacio Rafael Maso / Casa Maso and the Museu d'História de la Ciutat. The Catedral de Girona is also a museum in the surroundings of Vilobí d’Onyar.

Trails along the Onyar

The Itinerari Ruta de l’Onyar is an easy hike through Vilobí d’Onyar. It runs through fields and along the banks of the Onyar to the Resclosa d’en Borra, passing the recreational area on the Onyar along the way. The trail combines agriculturally shaped sections with the riverbank and a recreational area.

The Camino del Onyar is an approximately 19-kilometre route through Mediterranean forests, farmland on the plain and riparian forests along the Onyar. The route therefore encompasses several types of landscape: forest, the farmland of the plain and the stretch of river bordered by riparian forests.

Surroundings

The peaks of l'Argimon, Puig de Basses, Roca Guillera and Puig d'en Carreres are located in the surroundings of Vilobí d’Onyar.
