Torrelles De Llobregat: Trails, Cliffs and Cherry-Growing Traditions
The Ruta del Sol Blau is a circular trail through the municipality of Torrelles that can be used on foot and by mountain bike. There are several mountain-bike variants that do not follow the narrow paths.
Trails through Landscapes
The Ruta de la Cirera passes through a mosaic of fields planted mainly with cherry trees, abandoned fields and Aleppo pine forest with typical Mediterranean flora and fauna. The Ruta de Can Reinal runs on both sides of the Can Reinal valley beside the built-up area of Torrelles; the Torrent de Can Reinal crosses the valley.
The Ruta del Sol Blau passes through dense Aleppo pine and holm oak forests, fruit-growing areas with particularly large numbers of cherry trees, and offers wide views over the Llobregat Delta and Barcelonès. It also runs alongside prominent cliffs and red rock formations.
Cliffs, Heights and Springs
La Penya Bruguera is a 369-metre-high mountain made of reddish conglomerate. Erosion has created distinctive formations there, as well as rock overhangs and caves near the Balma de Can Masset de Dalt.
Les Penyes de Can Riera are 353-metre-high red rock formations shaped by erosion. A hiking trail to Puig Vicenç passes through the area; from Torrelles, it can be reached via a path starting at the hamlet of Mas.
Puig Vicenç is 467 metres high and is the highest point in Torrelles de Llobregat and the Serra de Can Güell. The ascent from Torrelles de Llobregat passes through three geological zones: slate, red conglomerate and limestone.
There are 44 recognised springs in Torrelles. Some are of landscape or ecotourism interest; 16 of them have an average annual flow of at least one litre per minute.
Culture and Cherry-Growing Tradition
The parish church of Sant Martí is a neo-Gothic building inaugurated in 1900. La Moixiganga de Torrelles is an allegorical dance in which the Passion, death and resurrection of Christ are represented through eight staged scenes.
The Festa de la Cirera includes a cherry exhibition, a cherry market and a craft fair. It has been organised in Torrelles since 1980; originally, it was dedicated to the end of the cherry harvest.
Since 2007, the Festa de la Cirera has included a Ruta Gastronòmica. It highlights the culinary side of the cherry as the most important local product. Les Torretes® are traditional pastry biscuits from Torrelles.
