Valdesaz between the Ungría Valley, Culture and MTB

A sporting connection to Valdesaz can be seen in the Prueba MTB Valdesaz. After its first edition in 2024, it was held at least a second time. At the II Prueba MTB Valdesaz, the route split at the Senda del Arroyo del Nacimiento; the short route was 31 kilometres long and had 630 metres of elevation gain. Route length and elevation gain are two different measurements for comparing routes and planning your own day.

Culture

In the centre of Valdesaz there is one of five information boards for the marked walking trails in the valley. The Iglesia de la Concepción stands in the central square and defines the centre of Valdesaz. The church was built in the second half of the 16th century. There is also an 18th-century spring beside the square. The main altar of the parish church of Valdesaz is an 18th-century Baroque altarpiece with Solomonic columns.

Nature

The protected Valle del río Ungría is a narrow valley carved out by the river. Its landscape includes palaeochannels, tight meanders and incised gorges, as well as deciduous Quejigo and riparian forests and evergreen holm-oak forests. During the breeding season, it provides territories and regular occurrences for birds of prey such as golden eagles, peregrine falcons, eagle owls, booted eagles, short-toed snake eagles, goshawks, sparrowhawks and common buzzards.

Walking trails

Route RCGU-39 through the Ungría Valley passes through the municipality of Valdesaz (Brihuega). On the descent along Route RCGU-39 from Valdesaz to the valley floor, the trail passes the Fuente de la Fuentecilla. The Ermita de la Soledad is a noteworthy point in Valdesaz along the route through the Ungría Valley. On 10 February 1634, the chapel was blessed by the Bishop of Bizerte. The route, valley floor, spring and chapel constitute different points of reference for viewing the trail.

Festivals

Valdesaz's patron saint's festival in honour of Saint Macarius is celebrated on 23 August as the central date of the festivities. The festival includes a solemn Mass in honour of the saint followed by a procession.
