Hiendelaencina: Holiday apartment between silver mining and local history

Culture

The oldest part of Hiendelaencina dates from before 1844. It preserves low houses with irregular floor plans adapted to the terrain, broad walls made of gneiss and quartzite with clay, interior structures made of elm or oak, and roofs made of large slate slabs.

The single-nave parish church of Hiendelaencina was built between 1848 and 1851. With its large dimensions, it was designed for a population of several thousand people. The Ermita de la Virgen de la Soledad is located at the eastern entrance to the town, as is typical of many village entrances.

The Pasión Viviente has a performance history uninterrupted since 1972. Non-professional performers from Hiendelaencina stage it in the Plaza Mayor; it concludes with the crucifixion on a small nearby hill.
