Alocén by the Entrepeñas Reservoir

Alocén is situated on a hillside with a direct view of the Entrepeñas Reservoir. The reservoir, formed by the Tagus, can also be seen directly from the town’s natural viewpoints. Between sacred history, traditional masonry architecture, walking trails and water sports, the town offers a variety of ways to explore it.

Culture and history

The most notable historic building in Alocén is the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. The church was built in the first decades of the 17th century; its tower was completed in the middle of the same century. The portal was added in 1693. The church’s naves contain six altarpieces from the 17th and 18th centuries.

Another special feature is the sacristy of the Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. It was built in the second half of the 18th century and now houses a small museum with paintings, goldsmith’s work, liturgical vestments and historical documents.

The Ermita de San Juan was completed in 1647 and is located on the road to Sacedón on a hillside. The Ermita de la Soledad contains several carvings from Holy Week as well as an image of the Virgen de la Soledad. Directly beside the chapel, the Calvario de Alocén has a monumental stone pedestal with three crosses.

The celebration of Cristo del Amparo is also linked to the town’s history: it dates back to a vow made by the residents of Alocén in 1670 and takes place on the Sunday after 15 August.

Landscape and townscape

Water and activities

The Club Orillas de Alocén offers courses in various water sports. They use only wind or physical strength as propulsion. The facilities are open to all types of visitors, not just the club’s more than 280 members.

Visitors can try light sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and stand-up paddleboarding at the Club Orillas de Alocén. The nautical area next to the pier has changing rooms, showers, an air-conditioned multipurpose room, a shaded picnic or relaxation area, beach volleyball courts with solar showers and a camping area. Several hiking trails also lead through the surrounding pine forest.
