Reolid – Natural Area, Greenway and Holiday Apartment

Reolid lies at the foot of the mountain, at one of the natural gateways to the impressive Sierra de Alcaraz natural area. Landscape, paths, culture and history shape the town and combine short discoveries with longer routes through the surrounding area.

Wellness

Balneario La Esperanza is located on the CM-412 at kilometre 172, in 02316 Reolid, Albacete. This gives Reolid’s range of themes a clearly identified wellness destination, complementing the landscape and route experiences with its own distinct focus.

Culture

Every year from 24 to 26 August, Reolid celebrates its patron saint’s festivities in honour of San Bartolomé. Reolid’s parish church is the Iglesia de Santo Domingo de Guzmán. Thus, an event firmly anchored in the annual calendar and a specific religious building represent the cultural side of the town, without the two impressions merging into a single experience.

Nature

In the surroundings of Reolid, three kilometres from the town centre, lies the natural area known as the Estrecho de Hocino. The Estrecho de Hocino is an inselberg surrounded by the gorges of the Salobre River. The landscape therefore appears here not only as a general natural area, but also in a clearly identified geological form with an equally specifically named river setting.

Hiking and Cycling

The Túnel de Reolid is 520 metres long and has automatically operated artificial lighting. Visitors are advised to carry a torch when passing through the Túnel de Reolid. Its length, lighting and the recommendation to bring your own light source are directly associated with this special section of the route.

The Reolid–Albacete/Jaén Provincial Border section of the Camino Natural Vía Verde del Renacimiento is almost 20 kilometres long. The Vía Verde de la Sierra de Alcaraz runs along the former Baeza–Utiel railway line. The tunnel and the nearly 20-kilometre section therefore represent distinctly different route formats, while the Greenway’s historical connection is expressly retained.

History

The Antigua estación de Reolid is one of the remnants of the failed railway line that was intended to connect Baeza with Utiel. A rest area is located at the Antigua estación de Reolid; it forms part of the hiking route and is equipped for hikers and cyclists. At this named point, the historic railway remnant, the route and the rest area equipped for users of the route thus come together.
