Alborea – Hiking Trails, Culture and Wine

Alborea combines marked trails with landscapes, cultural monuments, wine tradition and an event firmly rooted in the annual calendar. The officially approved Sendero de Peñarcón PR-AB-09 passes through grain fields, vineyards, pine forest and Mediterranean undergrowth. Its starting point is on C/Peatonal, just a few metres from Alborea Town Hall.

A holiday apartment in Alborea can be assessed based on travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions. This keeps the period, category and conditions visible as separate details, which can be weighted differently depending on the planned trip. For Alborea, these details can be weighted differently depending on the travel plan: those wishing to combine trails, cultural monuments, wine tradition or the festival thematically set the period and then compare the room category and cancellation conditions. This keeps the accommodation details as independent decision points alongside the described local and landscape aspects. The three details make different parts of an offer visible and can be read separately without mixing them together.

Culture and Tradition

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Natividad is popularly known as the “Cathedral of La Manchuela”. The construction of this church spans several periods in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

In the surroundings of Alborea stands a contemporary Roman-style bridge that is in very good condition. Alborea is also part of the Ruta del Vino de La Manchuela. The church, bridge and wine route represent different cultural and regional points of reference, without being reduced to the same historical or landscape theme.

On 1 May, a Romería with the Virgen del Carmen is held in Alborea. A stop is made at a chapel for Mass before the statue is taken to La Cañada. The date, the stop at the chapel and the statue’s subsequent journey belong together and define the festival’s specific course.

Nature

The officially approved Sendero de la Fuente del Abrevador–Río Cabriel PR-AB-08 begins in the historic centre of Alborea and heads towards the Cabriel riverbed. The marked trail ends 400 metres from the Río Cabriel.

The area of the Sendero de la Fuente del Abrevador–Río Cabriel PR-AB-08 is practically fully protected by the Natura 2000 network, both as an SCI of Community importance and as an SPA for bird protection.

Routes

The Sendero Al-Burayat connects the town centre of Alborea with Casas-Ibáñez and crosses the municipality of Alborea from west to east.

From the Sendero Al-Burayat, the Cañada Vallunquer with its parks and gardens, the old washhouse, a camping area and barbecue areas can be seen. Along this route, landscaped green spaces, a historic testimony to everyday life, and designated areas and sites therefore emerge together as visible destinations.
