One trail runs to the left of the Río Cabriel through woodland and orchards and, in some sections, follows irrigation channels fed by pure spring water. Culture and Local History

Cilanco, a hamlet of Villatoya, has Visigothic tombs and Roman remains of archaeological interest. Cilanco has up to three old washhouses, whose water still flows directly from the outlets today. At the Fuente de las Lombrices, water emerges from a rock embedded in clayey terrain. The water from this spring was once bottled for commercial purposes.

Water and Architectural Heritage

The Iglesia de la Misericordia is located in the centre of Villatoya and is of relatively recent construction. The Balneario Baños de la Concepción includes a building with a 19th-century courtyard and the Ermita de la Concepción. Written records of the waters of the Balneario Baños de la Concepción date back to 1798.

Festivals and Astronomy

At the end of Holy Week, Villatoya organises the traditional excursion into the surrounding countryside known as “rular la mona”. Villatoya’s patron-saint festivals take place in mid-August and include numerous cultural events, including observations from the municipal astronomical observatory. The Villatoya Astronomical Observatory is considered the only observatory in the province of Albacete; it organises workshops, observation sessions and activities for communicating science.
