Órzola is a coastal village at the northern tip of Lanzarote, overlooking the islets of the Chinijo Archipelago.

Nature and Coast

Órzola has unspoilt beaches with golden sand. Los Caletones, Caletón Blanco and Caleta del Blanco are small sandy beaches without extensive development, with crystal-clear water and very gentle waves; the ochre-coloured sand contrasts with the black rocks along the shore. Órzola borders the Monumento Natural de La Corona, a protected landscape comprising a volcanic cone, lava flows and an extensive malpaís.

Hiking and the Sea

The first stage of the Camino Natural de Órzola to Playa Blanca begins at the port of Órzola and leads into the Monumento Natural de La Corona nature reserve with its extensive malpaís. The Camino Natural de Lanzarote (GR-131) passes through Órzola, is 71 kilometres long and is divided into five stages. The route is suitable for hiking and can be travelled by bicycle along a very large part of its length.

Boats operate from the port of Órzola to the island of La Graciosa and through the marine reserve of Lanzarote’s northern islets. A sea connection links Órzola with Caleta del Sebo on La Graciosa; the crossing takes around 20 minutes. It is operated by Líneas Marítimas Romero, Biosphera Express, Water-Taxi and Sea Taxi La Graciosa, with departures from both ports and an extensive range of scheduled services.

Culture and History

The Salinas de Órzola are a historic, ethnographic, artistic and architectural heritage ensemble. They belong to the type of new saltworks with stone lining characteristic of Lanzarote. The layout and some ancillary facilities of the Salinas de Órzola have been preserved.

The Cueva de Órzola is a natural cave in a lava flow that was used by the indigenous population, as indicated by the materials found inside it. Traditional Fiestas de Santa Rosa de Lima are celebrated in Órzola with an extensive programme.
