Charco Del Palo – Natural Pools, Diving and Volcanic Landscape

Charco del Palo combines natural tidal pools with the open sea, a volcanically shaped landscape and the distinctive everyday life of a residential development where naturism is practised. The water in the natural pools is calm and crystal clear, while the sea beyond the pools is rougher. Different coastal and landscape forms therefore meet directly here.

Coast and bathing areas

Charco del Palo has three bathing areas. Two of them are natural tidal pools. Their water level follows the tides: they fill up at high tide and empty again as the water level falls. The third bathing area is on the open sea and allows for swimming or snorkelling. The three coves of Charco del Palo invite you to swim and differ mainly in terms of water level and bathing experience.

The northernmost natural pool also has a dedicated area for beach pétanque. Calm natural pools, the open sea, snorkelling and a beach activity thus form part of the different experiences along the coast. It is recommended that you swim only in the designated natural pools in Charco del Palo, as the sea outside these areas is less inviting.

Volcanic landscape

The landscape around Charco del Palo is characterised by numerous volcanic formations and cactus fields. Among these landscape features, the Lanzarote-native plant Caralluma burchardii can also be found in Charco del Palo. The plant life thus adds an independent natural aspect to the coastal character.

Water and diving

The small cove of Charco del Palo is suitable for scuba diving. It is easy to reach on foot and by car. Some of the island’s finest diving sites are located near Charco del Palo and are known for their volcanic topography. In addition to diving in the cove, nearby diving sites with a volcanically shaped underwater relief are therefore also associated with the area.

Swimming and snorkelling are among the activities available at the third bathing area on the open sea, while the two natural pools are characterised by their tide-dependent water levels. The northernmost bathing area additionally combines this coastal landscape with the dedicated beach pétanque court.
