La Oliva: Historical Route, Culture and Holiday Apartments

La Oliva presents its cultural history at sites with different functions. The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria is designated as a protected monument in the Bien de Interés Cultural category. Its construction began in the late 16th century as a work of vernacular Mudéjar architecture; the main altar contains a polyptych by Juan de Miranda Cejas. The Casa de Los Coroneles was built by the Cabrera Bethencourt family in the second half of the 17th century. In the 18th century, it was expanded and subsequently served as the permanent residence of the Coroneles. Today, the building serves as a cultural centre where exhibitions are held. The sequence of construction, expansion, residence and present-day cultural function gives the building several historical and cultural layers.
