The history of the village includes its role in the 1970s: at that time, Sant Ferran de ses Roques was a meeting place for hippies and bohemians. Fonda Pepe is also associated with this community; it is still open.

From 8 p.m., artists from the island display their works in Calle Mayor in Sant Ferran, turning the street into an open-air art gallery. On summer nights, Sant Ferran’s arts and crafts market becomes the largest showcase for Formentera’s art.

Music is also part of the village’s events calendar. As part of the „Música en las plazas“ programme, live concerts are held on Sant Ferran’s square on Fridays from May to October. In September, the guitar festival adds two evenings of live music to the programme. Different types of events therefore take place alongside one another: evening exhibitions and market stalls, regular concerts on the square and a two-day festival in September.

Routes and Landscape

Green Route 21 follows paths through the island’s interior, passing through an agricultural landscape with supported fig trees, small flocks, family gardens and Formentera’s characteristic stone walls. The route is easy and 4.2 kilometres long; it takes 20 minutes by bicycle and 60 minutes on foot.

In Sant Ferran, the roads from Sant Francesc, Es Pujols and Pilar de la Mola intersect. In addition to these road connections, Green Route 21 runs through the agricultural landscape in the island’s interior.
