Soto Del Barco developed along the Nalón; in this area, its estuary reaches the Cantabrian coast. Playa de Los Quebrantos is a large Cantabrian beach near La Arena. The Los Quebrantos recreational area is located on the beach and offers views of the sea and mountains.

Coast

In L'Arena, there is the Christmas tradition of the Angulero, in which a fisherman brings presents to children.
Culture and History
The Palacio de la Magdalena was built in the mid-18th century at the behest of Don Juan de Llano Ponte, the Bishop of Oviedo. The Puerta del Mar Interpretation Centre has a permanent exhibition on the history of eel fishing and the lives of the women who collected coal. The exhibition also covers the environmental features of the Ría del Nalón and the ethnographic culture of the municipality. It also explains the former importance of the fish canning factories and coal collection in the Ría del Nalón.
Visitors can enter the military complex of Ranón and pass through its galleries. A 50-metre-long trench connects the two forts of Ranón with the artillery battery of La Peña.
The Castro de San Martín in El Castillo was further used by the Romans and later converted into a castle during the Kingdom of Asturias. Castillo de San Martín Castle was built in the 9th century at the behest of Alfonso III of Asturias to protect the settlement and the coast from Norman invasions.
Things to Do
The Ruta de Santa Eulalia offers panoramic views of the municipalities of Pravia and Soto del Barco from Villar and Santa Eulalia. The Palacio de Bouzas in Riberas is a 19th-century site of interest on the Ruta de los Veneros. The Senda de las Trincheras de Ranón can be started at the port of La Arena and followed uphill towards Ranón.
The marina of San Juan de la Arena has 98 permanent berths and 10 permanent moorings, including 10 moorings for transit. The marina of San Juan de la Arena can be reached via the A-8 motorway and the N-632 and AS-318 roads.
The eel season in San Juan de la Arena lasts from October to April and reaches its peak in February or March with the Festival de la Angula.
