Morcín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Morcín forms part of the protected landscape of the Sierra del Aramo, an almost 20-kilometre-long and seven-kilometre-wide limestone ridge. Those choosing Morcín as a destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment there.
Landscape and Trails
The protected landscape of the Sierra del Aramo can be reached via the regional AS-229 road between Pola de Lena and Bárzana. At the northern end of the Embalse de Alfilorios there is a recreation area and a small viewpoint overlooking Monsacro, where two medieval chapels are located. Access to the Embalse de Alfilorios is via Santolaya from the N-630, taking the MO-1 and MO-2 towards Los Alfilorios. Waterfowl can be observed at the Embalse de Alfilorios.
From La Vara, the ascents to Mostayal and Gamonal each take two to three hours; the municipal route descriptions rate both ascents as easy. The Peñerudes and Torreón route is suitable for all target groups. The route to Pico Llosorio is a 12.82-kilometre circular mountain hike that starts and ends in La Foz de Morcín. In clear weather, the 360-degree view from the summit of Pico Llosorio extends from the Picos de Europa to the Cantabrian Sea.
Culture and History
The Torreón de Peñerudes is classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural. Monsacro is home to the Ermita de la Magdalena and the Ermita de Santiago; both are classified as Bienes de Interés Cultural, with classifications dated 8 May 1992.
