Sopeira – Romanesque Architecture, Water and Rock

Culture

The Romanesque bridge lies on the route between Santa María de Alaón Monastery and Escales Dam. In Santoréns, the Romanesque Church of San Orencio apparently preserves only the semicircular apse from the original Romanesque structure. Its entrance has a segmental-arch opening leading to a small covered atrium.

A circular route near Santoréns passes the hermitage of San Pedro. BTT Route 16 runs on the outskirts of Sopeira. These two route connections can be read as different forms of travelling: a circular route with a named destination and a route along the edge of the town.

Sopeira’s municipal swimming pools open during the summer months, particularly in July and August. They have two separate pools, a lawn area, changing rooms and public sanitary facilities.

In recent years, the Feria del Tomate has been established in the first week of August as an attraction for visitors and residents and to promote this product.
