Sallent de Gállego: Reservoir, Culture and Hiking Trails

Sallent de Gállego lies at the upper end of the Valle de Tena at an elevation of 1,305 metres, at the end of the Lanuza Reservoir and below Peña Foratata.

Culture and Townscape

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción was built at the beginning of the 16th century in the Gothic style over an earlier Romanesque church. Its main altar dates from 1537 and consists of sixteen painted panels. The church is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Monument category. The medieval Puente Medieval bridge is worth seeing; next to it are a children's playground and a picnic area. Sallent de Gállego is also home to the Mirador del Salto viewpoint.

Water and Trails

The route around the Lanuza Reservoir leads from Sallent de Gállego via Lanuza and returns to Sallent on an unpaved road along the right bank of the Gállego. It is just over 6 kilometres long and suitable for families. The GR 16 hiking trail begins in Sallent de Gállego, heads towards Panticosa past the Lanuza Reservoir and connects there with the trans-Pyrenean GR 11.

The Aramón Formigal-Panticosa ski resort offers 182 kilometres of skiable terrain and 147 slopes of varying difficulty levels.
