Bielsa: Pineta, Culture and Mountain Biking in the Pyrenees

The Pineta Valley, also known here as La Valle Verde, is a glacial valley. From the village of Bielsa to the Circo de Pineta, the 14 km-long valley can be traversed by vehicle through the various districts of Espierba. The Bielsa-Aragnouet Tunnel enables a crossing of the mountains and access to the French Pyrenees.

Nature

The Pista de La Larri is a restricted-access route that begins near the Parador Nacional de Pineta. It ends at the Llanos de La Larri. The Llanos de Lalarri are designated as a circular route in Pineta. Thus, the Pista de La Larri is spatially clearly defined by its named starting point and specified endpoint, while the route runs through the Montillo Gorge towards Cresta de Maristás.

The Cascada de Pineta is a waterfall on the Cinc River, which cascades from the Balcón de Pineta over the walls and slopes of the Circo de Pineta. From the village of Bielsa, a path leads through the Montillo Gorge uphill towards Cresta de Maristás. Culture

The Museo de Bielsa is housed in a Renaissance town hall and includes exhibits on traditional life, the history of the valley and “La Bolsa de Bielsa”. The Ayuntamiento fortificado de Bielsa is a fortified town hall in Bielsa.

The Carnaval de Bielsa is celebrated for three days in February and during the week after Ash Wednesday. The traditional songs and dances of Bielsa can be heard and seen in summer at the valley’s patron saint festivals; they are strongly influenced by French traditions.

Casa Larraga is located on the Plaza Mayor in Bielsa, provides visitor information and serves as the national park’s coordination office for the Pineta sector.

Activities

BIELSA TROCS is a mountain biking route area created by restoring old mountain paths. BIELSA TROCS offers mountain bike trails for all levels of difficulty, from family-friendly routes to technically demanding enduro descents.

Las Feixas is a cross-border trekking route in the Pyrenees that begins and ends in Bielsa. Barrosa is a gorge in the Valle de Bielsa that is suitable for beginners at canyoning. The three activity types mentioned therefore differ in their structure: BIELSA TROCS combines various mountain biking difficulty levels, Las Feixas connects two countries, and Barrosa represents canyoning in a gorge.
