Banastás – Holiday Apartment, Nature and History

Carrasca Becha is a listed monumental tree. The Carrascal de Nisano is an extensive holm oak forest and is considered the only lowland forest in the province of Huesca. Culture and History

The Iglesia de San Andrés was incorporated into the reconstruction of Banastás after the Civil War. It is a single-nave building with a Neo-Romanesque, semicircular apse. On its eastern side is a long porticoed atrium annex opened by three large arches.

The first written documents attesting to Banastás’s existence date from 1098. The Castillo de Nisano is a fortified complex documented in the 11th century. Remains of the walls of the Castillo de Becha survive on a slope overlooking the plain of La Sotonera.

Banastás belongs to the “Seven Villages”, which maintain an important connection with the Ermita de Cíllas, where several pilgrimages take place every year. The so-called “Seven Villages” also maintain a special connection with the Ermita de Loreto, which tradition associates with the life of San Lorenzo.

Trails

A trail connects Banastás with Chimillas and runs along the Humedal de Cortés. An eastern variant leads directly from the Alberca de Cortés to Banastás. The route runs from Huesca via the Alberca de Cortés to Chimillas and Banastás; part of the route follows the Camino de Santiago.
