Burguillos showcases its connection between landscape and religious tradition at the Ermita de Nuestra Señora Virgen del Rosario Coronada. The chapel, which is associated with the municipality’s patron saint, is located in the natural landscape of La Madrona, three kilometres from Burguillos.

Nature and Landscape

In the higher part of the municipality, the Parque Periurbano contains a natural area surrounded by pine trees. From there, it offers a panoramic view of Burguillos. A recreational area in Burguillos also has picnic areas and barbecue facilities for use by residents and visitors.

Culture and Tradition

The interior of the Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Rosario is dominated by a painting of Our Lady of the Rosary, created by Rafael Rodríguez Hernández in 1991. The building consists of a single nave with a gabled roof. The presbytery projects as a semicircular apse and has two oculi on the sides.

The celebrations in honour of the Virgen del Rosario include a novena. It begins ten days before the first Friday in October and ends on the preceding Wednesday with a besamanos in the parish church. The traditional Romería in honour of Our Lady of the Rosary takes place every year at the chapel on the Sunday after the first Friday in October.

The parish church of Burguillos also preserves distinctive architectural details: it has a Baroque espadaña, a bell gable typical of Spanish churches. Inside, there is an artesonado wooden ceiling. An item of cultural heritage bears the designation "Santa Ana; Retablo de la Virgen del Rosario (29809)".

History and Museums

Historical archaeological pieces are exhibited at the Ayuntamiento de Burguillos, including a niche, millstones, roof tiles, a shaft and a capital. The modern cultural centre of Burguillos has a library, an archaeological museum and an exhibition hall.

An iron sickle found in El Torreón dates from the Roman Imperial period and is dated to between 27 BC and AD 284. It is kept at the Provincial Archaeological Museum.

Cycle and Pilgrimage Routes

The Villa de Burguillos mountain-bike tour is 50 kilometres long in total, 20 kilometres of which are competition-oriented. It begins at the Plaza de la Constitución in Burguillos and passes through the town centre, along various local paths and through the sierra.

The fourth stage of the Camino Benedictino connects Burguillos and Castilblanco de los Arroyos via a livestock trail through the Montes de La Madroña and the Cerro del Moro. This stage is not signposted and can be confusing due to numerous private turn-offs.

Cuisine and Events

Burguillos’ culinary specialities include small-game dishes, stews and asparagus. Arroz con perdiz is one of the most frequently served dishes. The Festival Flamenco La Era offers the public a free event featuring singing, instrumental music and dancing.
