Lentegí – Culture and Active Routes in the Río Verde Valley

Lentegí combines the Río Verde Valley with distinctive church architecture and several practiced types of activity. As a result, different travel impressions come together in one place: landscape features, a historic religious building and specific routes can each be considered as separate focal points.

Landscape

Lentegí is located in the Río Verde Valley. The route along the Río Lentegí is characterised by limestone formations. These two landscape references give the area a clear spatial framework while also distinguishing between the valley as a geographical setting and the rocky landscape along the route.

Culture

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Rosario dates from the 16th century. It was built on the floor plan of an earlier mosque, which dates approximately from the 13th century. The church originally had three naves. This building therefore incorporates several historical periods: the earlier floor plan, the approximate period when the mosque was built and the later church dating from the 16th century.

Routes

The descent at the Río Lentegí begins at the “Las Viñas-Barrancones-Cortijo Lisardo” trail in Lentegí. At the Río Lentegí, there is a water descent through a classic gorge. The descent includes 15 abseil points; the highest abseil point is 25 metres high. The number of abseil points and the height of the highest abseil point describe the character of this route more precisely than a general designation for an activity.
