Culture and Community

The cultural heritage of Draga includes the Church of the Visitation of Mary. It is classified as a unit of Slovenian cultural heritage. There are also several monuments in Draga. The “Žrtvam Dragarske doline” monument was unveiled in 1961 as a twisted obelisk on a raised platform with a figurative relief spiral. There is also a stone block bearing the names of those who fell.

The “Draga, Spomenik padlim borcem” monument was unveiled in 1956 and commemorates Pejnovič Iso, Turk Stanko and Klepac Filip, who were shot there in August 1942. In Draga, you can reach the monument directly behind the church via an asphalt road. Then turn left onto a forest road; after 200 metres, it is on the right-hand side in a small grassy hollow in the forest.

The Draga Cultural and Sports Association contributes to local community life with sports and cultural events. These include hikes, football tournaments, amateur theatre, children's workshops and intergenerational gatherings. Another longstanding connection between the church and local customs is the parish festival “žegnanje”. It was celebrated for several consecutive years in connection with the Feast of the Visitation of Mary on 31 May. At the “žegnanje” in Draga, sweet and savoury foods are offered for tasting after Sunday Mass.
