Culture

St. Stephen’s Church in Ribnica contains an altarpiece of Saint Stephen from 1901 by Ivan Grohar. Its two bell towers bear the name “Ribnica crowns” and are considered the last work of Jože Plečnik.

Ribnica Castle has stood in the centre of Ribnica since at least 1263. The Museum of Ribnica in Ribnica Castle presents permanent and temporary craft exhibitions. The castle tower of Ribnica Castle houses a permanent exhibition on the witch trials of Ribnica.

The Škrabec Homestead (“Škrabec Homestead”) in Hrovača is the birthplace of the Franciscan friar Stanislav Škrabec. The Miklova Hiša Gallery houses an accommodation in Ribnica art collection featuring works from the 1980s and 1990s.

The Ricikel bicycle rental system is available around the clock in the Municipality of Ribnica. Around eight conventional bicycles are available in front of the “Community Health Centre – Zdravstveni dom” and the “Cooperative Hall building (Zadružni dom)” in Ribnica.

Nature

The source of the Ribnica River can be reached via a family-friendly forest trail. St. Anne’s Church is a 16th-century church on the Mala gora ridge at an elevation of 920 metres.

Bele stene is an almost 60-metre-high limestone cliff designated as a natural monument. The 887-metre-high Grmada hill above the village of Vrh pri Poljanah is a popular hiking destination. A mountain hut that is open at weekends is located a few metres below the summit; the route there follows the “Trail to Grmada”.

At 1,254 metres above sea level, Turn is the highest peak of Velika gora. The mountains of Velika Gora, Črni Vrh, Debeli Vrh and Mala Gora are located in the area surrounding the Municipality of Ribnica. In the Ribnica area, the “Ribnica Fishing Club” manages six fishing waters.

For your planning, you can compare elevations, trail character, opening schedules and activity types. Culture, crafts and nature each offer different focal points and can be viewed as different types of day out.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Ribnica, travel dates, room category and cancellation conditions can be compared with your own plans. This keeps the accommodation decision open, regardless of whether the stay is to focus more on the castle and crafts, mountain trails or the natural sites mentioned above.
