Plave connects paths through history with churches, memorial sites and cycling routes along the Soča. Culture

The St. Aloysius Chapel was built in December 1916 near a military cemetery. In the following months, its interior was decorated with murals depicting scenes from the First World War. These include Italian soldiers raising the Italian tricolour on Mount Prižnica, as well as an attack by Italian infantry across a pontoon bridge near Plave towards Prižnica. The chapel can be reached from a small gravel car park located about half a kilometre from the village of Plave.

Another distinctive religious building is the Church of St. John the Baptist. It was built in the Neo-Romanesque architectural style, destroyed during the First World War and rebuilt in the 20th century. It is also said to have been built in 1866. Architecture, wartime history and reconstruction come together here in a single local history.

History

The circular trail through Prižnica Memorial Park begins immediately above Plave. The park is located in the municipality of Kanal ob Soči and is part of the Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic. Remains of Austro-Hungarian trenches and fortified positions are still visible there.

Nature

Plave is also connected to the Soča Cycle Route. The Plave–Solkan section runs along a cycle path and is suitable for families. The Plave–Nova Gorica cycle path runs directly alongside the emerald-green Soča at the foot of Sabotin. During the summer months, you can cool off in the Soča River along the Soča Cycle Route. This brings different forms of movement together: the cycle path by the water and the paths leading into the history of the surrounding area.
