Nature and trails

A particular focus is the “Glass Routes” trail network. It comprises almost 30 km of hiking trails between Lokve, Lazna and Gorenja Trebuša; Lokve is an excellent starting point. The easy “Pot za zidom” hiking trail runs around the village, leads mainly through beech forest, is 7 km long and takes about 2.5 hours. The stated duration is only an approximate guide.

Another circular route is called “Lokve – Poldanovec – Lokve”. It is 7 to 7.5 km long, takes 2 to 2.5 hours and reaches an elevation of 1,299 m. The “Pod vrhovi Trnovske planote” route is designated for families and recreational cyclists. It starts in Lokve and follows forest gravel roads beneath the main peaks of the Trnovska planota: Poldanovec, Ojstrovica, Mali Golak and Nagnovec.

From the summit of Poldanovec, spectacular views can be enjoyed in good weather. Its north face is considered the boldest cliff face in the Trnovski gozd area. Another of the village’s special features is Goveji kal. The path leading to Lazna reaches this traditional watering place. A wall was built on the boundary between private and state-owned land when stones were removed to create meadows.

Culture and history

Forest glassmaking is represented at several locations in Lokve. The Lokve section of the exhibition can be seen at the school, in the premises of KS Lokve-Lazna, at Gostilna Lokve and at the Winkler Inn. At Gostilna Lokve and the Winkler Inn, you can also taste the glassmakers’ dessert.

Contemporary and craft culture also have their place: the annual “Wood & Stone Lokve” sculpture colonies create a Forma viva in public spaces. A small museum of cooperage in Lokve can be visited by prior arrangement. The building of the former primary school contains a memorial plaque commemorating 38 fallen NOV fighters and victims of fascist violence from Lokve and Lazna. The Church of Sv. Antona Padovanskega is also one of the sights in Lokve.
