Tanča Gora: Holiday apartment between culture, cycling route and regional specialties

Tanča Gora combines small cultural monuments, a challenging cycling route and farm specialties into an unusually tangible sense of place. Between the churches, historic farmhouses and vineyards, you will encounter details that make the character of the village palpable – from a bell dating from 1736 to botanical records at St. Thomas Church.

Culture

One of the notable buildings is Tanča Gora – Cerkev sv. Ane, which is listed as a cultural monument with EŠD 1802. Original stone paving has been preserved in the vestibule and inside the church. The building also retains its original wall plaster and paintings; possible additional paintings beneath the whitewash are protected. As a result, visible historic surfaces and preserved yet still hidden decorative elements come together in one place.

Tanča Gora – Cerkev sv. Tomaža has a bell dating from 1736. It was made by the bell founder Jožef Samassa from Ljubljana. The church is also distinguished by its isolated location. Another protected building is Tanča Gora – Šuštarjeva kašča, which is listed as a cultural monument with EŠD 25915. Its protection covers the floor plan and the stone construction. Tanča Gora – Miklavova domačija is listed in the Slovenian cultural heritage inventory as architectural heritage with EŠD 27138.

Cycling

The White Carniola Cycling Route branches off toward Tanča Gora and climbs into the village over approximately two kilometres. The route is physically demanding and includes a V3-difficulty ascent and an S3-difficulty descent. This clearly states both the approximate length of the ascent and the two designated difficulty levels.

Another local option is offered by Pri Murnu: there is a private, bookable tennis court for singles matches, group training and friendly matches. The grounds also include a covered picnic area with a wooden shelter, stone barbecue and seating, as well as a summer kitchen in the countryside. Pri Murnu is open seasonally from April to October; visits are possible by prior arrangement.

Nature

The plant life is also documented with precise locations and elevations. On 3 June 2016, the bee orchid (Ophrys apifera) was recorded in Tanča Gora, 50 metres east of St. Thomas Church at an elevation of 240 metres above sea level. On the same day, the bug orchid (Orchis coriophora) was recorded 80 metres southeast of St. Thomas Church at an elevation of 238 metres above sea level.
