Holiday apartment in Griblje on the Kolpa – Nature, Water and Culture
Griblje is a place on the Kolpa where the river landscape, designated boat access points and traditional events are closely interconnected.
Water on the Kolpa
Near Griblje, there is a designated boat launching and landing point above the weir, as well as a designated rest area by the river. When getting in and out of the river and taking breaks while boating, only the designated and equipped locations intended for these purposes should be used. From the Stari Pod launch point, paddlers can paddle along the Kolpa to Gribelj.
Griblje is also one of the villages on the Kolpa listed among the places with the best swimming spots. This means that various connections to the river can be found side by side in the village landscape: designated areas for boats, a rest area and the aforementioned swimming spots.
Landscape
The Kolpa Landscape Park is located in the far southeast of Slovenia on the border with Croatia. It encompasses the Kolpa Valley and its hinterland and extends as a narrow strip between Stari trg and Dragoši.
Downstream from Griblje, the Kolpa floodplain broadens in the immediate surroundings of the village. Along the entire course of the Kolpa, there are diverse aquatic and riverside habitats. These provide favorable living conditions for numerous rare and endangered species, particularly fish, European pond turtles, freshwater pearl mussels and otters.
Nature
A natural attraction in its own right is the Ribnik v Gribljah. It is located between the villages of Krasinec and Griblje amid fields. To reach the Ribnik v Gribljah, park by the road and then walk approximately 500 meters between the fields.
The Ribnik v Gribljah is visited by various animals; storks have also been spotted there. The combination of open farmland, water and riverside habitats is evident here in a clearly defined section of the landscape.
Culture
Rally Griblje is a traditional gathering of enthusiasts of historic bicycles. The traditional Pastirski praznik in Griblje includes shepherds’ games, a scythe-mowing competition and a late lunch.
In 2026, Griblje celebrated the 500th anniversary of the first written mention of the filial church of St. Vitus. The traditional Vidovsko žegnanje includes a cultural and religious program.
