Holiday apartment in Vipava: springs, wine and history

Vipava is home to Europe's only delta-shaped river spring area. The Vipava Springs comprise seven springs that flow year-round and are protected as a natural monument. Over the centuries, 25 bridges have been built in Vipava over the numerous springs and waterways. At the same time, Vipava is the starting point for numerous hiking and cycling tours.

Culture and history

The Lanthieri Mansion was built around 1659 by Anton V. Lanthieri. The Lanthieri Mansion preserves interior paintings depicting motifs from ancient mythology and fables. Another historic site is the parish church of St. Stephen, which dates from 1460 to 1465. Its presbytery is completely covered with frescoes dating from 1737–1738 and 1876–1877.

Wine and experiences

The Vipava Wine Museum presents collections on vine propagation, viticulture and winemaking. It is located in the vaulted cellar of the Baroque Lanthieri Mansion. Wine tastings are also part of the local offering: Lanthierijev hram offers tastings with four or six wine samples.

The “Winemaker for a Day” experience allows visitors to follow the winemaking process from the vine to the bottle. It also includes training in creating a personal wine blend and the equipment needed to produce your own bottle of wine.

A four-hour guided tour of Vipava includes the Lanthieri Mansion, Tabor Castle and the Old Bridge, the Vipava Springs, Pavao-Rušto Square, two Egyptian sarcophagi, St. Stephen's Church and the Old Castle. The guided tours in Vipava are led by local guides and require advance reservation.
