Holiday apartment in Predmeja: Trails along the edge of the Gora

Predmeja lies on the Gora, a high karst plateau of the Trnovo Forest between Čaven and Nanos. At the same time, the village is a good starting point for the ascent of Mali Golak, at 1,495 metres the highest peak in the Municipality of Ajdovščina. Its location thus combines a striking landscape with several trails and special places that can be explored in different ways.

Nature

Below the edge of the Gora lies the well-known Skukova voda spring. It is still visited today for its water, which is believed to have healing properties. The edge of the Gora, known as the Rob, is also part of a landscape park. Among the striking natural formations is Bošnarjevo brezno in Predmeja. It is considered the cave most easily accessible to visitors, has three entrances and a natural bridge above its wide opening.

Trails

The themed trail „Pot po Dolu gor in dol“ is marked and provided with descriptions of significant sights. Another route is the hiking trail „Pot po Robu“, which leads as an easy route from Predmeja to Col over rocky ridges and meadows. Its starting point is at the Mother Gorjanka monument in Predmeja; a large gravel parking lot is available there. Along the edge of the Gora, the trail continues with views over the Vipava Valley, the Karst, and the Gulf of Trieste and the Gulf of Piran.

The starting point of the „Na Čaven po Srednječavenski poti“ trail is at a parking lot between the quarry and the tunnels on the Lokavec–Predmeja road. The access road to Predmeja is also one of the noteworthy sections of the route: it passes through tunnels carved by hand out of the rock.

Culture

Next to the forestry lodge in Predmeja stands a memorial to Jožef Ressel. The village also contains a monument to water created by Marko Pogačnik. It is the only monument dedicated to this subject in Slovenia. A burial site commemorates 367 fallen partisans from the partisan units. The Mother Gorjanka monument was created in 2001, when local residents celebrated the 400th anniversary of the settlement of the Gora.

Activities

The Kovk launch site is designated for paragliding and hang-gliding. Anyone wishing to explore the Gora on two wheels can cycle around it by mountain bike. Thus, in addition to the marked hiking trails, air sports and a cycling route are clearly named forms of travel in this area.
