Today’s St. Peter’s Church was built in 1641 in a style characteristic of local 17th-century architecture. Inside, it houses a small, museum-like collection of works by the Baroque painter Anton Cebej. In 1768, Anton Cebej painted the entire chancel of St. Peter’s Church in Dobravlje.

Culture

St. Peter’s Church stands alone in a field south of Dobravlje. The area around the church is particularly idyllic for walkers and cyclists. Sacred art, the building’s peaceful setting and a clearly described environment for walks and cycling routes are all found together here.

Nature and routes

The compact hamlets of Dobravlje are surrounded by cultivated fields, orchards and vineyards. This landscape is not defined by a single natural feature, but by several agriculturally used elements that shape the surroundings of the hamlets.

There are two information boards in Dobravlje: one by the community centre and one at St. Peter’s Church. The information boards contain details about walking and cycling routes in the surrounding area. The Dobravski tek route runs around the village of Dobravlje and passes numerous natural and cultural attractions.

For planning your day, you can consider the Dobravski tek, walking trails and cycling routes as separate focal points. The church, information boards, run and fields offer different perspectives on Dobravlje side by side. You can decide for yourself which perspective receives more time during the day, depending on your preferred mix of route, art and landscape.

Music and events

The Tamburaški orkester Danica comes from Dobravlje and brings together adult amateur musicians from various villages in the upper Vipava Valley and its surrounding areas. The ensemble gives numerous performances every year and accepts invitations to perform as guests in places both near and far.

The village’s musical life thus ranges from an ensemble with roots in Dobravlje to guest performances for which the orchestra is invited from places both near and far.

At the 16th gathering of this kind, held in Dobravlje on 10 June, fifteen cultural associations took part, each presenting short performances.
