Holiday apartment in Vrakúň: Cultural heritage and flat cycling routes

Vrakúň combines historic architecture with marked cycling routes. This gives you two clearly distinct ways to explore the town: sacred and secular landmarks stand alongside routes with specified lengths, surfaces and suitability.

Culture

The protected monument ensemble “Kaštieľ a park” in Vrakúň comprises the castle commonly known as “Chateau Amadé” and the park component “torzo park pri kaštieli”. It is registered under ÚZPF numbers 128/1–2. The castle is probably a Louis-style building from the mid-18th century and was restored in 1904. The designation of the park component explicitly refers to the remaining part of the park belonging to the ensemble; together with the registration numbers, the protected designation of the castle and park remains clear. This makes it possible to clearly distinguish the main building and the remaining park component within the same protected site.

The protected statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is a late Baroque monument from the mid-18th century. The associated ensemble is registered under ÚZPF numbers 130/1–2, with the statue bearing number 130/2. The present Roman Catholic church, whose patron saint is Saint James, is also part of the historic townscape. It was built in the second half of the 14th century, probably using elements of an older church from the Árpád period.

The church has a polygonal chancel with a ribbed cross vault. The vault of the nave was rebuilt in the 18th century. A medieval pillory, which was used for punishment, also stands at the entrance. The individual structural elements and furnishings thus give the church a variety of historical points of reference.

Another facet of the town’s history is represented by the Vrakúň folk dwelling. It is a typical example of the farmsteads of the Žitný ostrov region and showcases the folk architecture of the Danube region in southern Slovakia. As an exhibition of traditional rural living, it documents the traditional way of life and housing in the village. The Vrakúň folk dwelling is located at house number 25 and bears registration number 458 on the northern edge of the town, near a bend in Dvojrad Street.

Cycling

The Malý vrakúnsky okruh is a 2,200-metre-long, flat cycling route intended for mountain bikes. This route is also suitable for families with children. The information therefore combines a manageable route length with an expressly stated target group.

The marked Vrakúň–Mad cycling route is 4,800 metres long and flat. It is suitable for all types of bicycles. In terms of its stated use, it therefore differs from the mountain-bike route Malý vrakúnsky okruh, while its flat route profile remains unchanged.

The marked Vrakúň–Povoda cycling route is 4,700 metres long, flat and suitable for mountain bikes. It runs along the embankment of the S7 canal and on farm tracks. In addition to the route length, the two stated sections of its course are therefore also recorded here.
