Holiday apartment in Kostolné Kračany – culture, nature and cycling route

Kostolné Kračany is located in the Danubian Lowland (Podunajská nížina), in the central part of the Great Rye Island (Žitný ostrov). The landscape, local history and a marked cycling connection are the main points of reference for the locality.

Landscape

The Konopiská protected area is part of the natural environment. It covers the cadastral area of Amadeho Kračany in the municipality of Kostolné Kračany. The fourth level of protection applies in this protected area.

Culture and history

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Bartholomew (Kostol sv. Bartolomeja) is registered as an immovable national cultural monument under ÚZPF number 95/1. It acquired its present appearance in 1820. György Bartal commissioned the construction of the new building in the Classicist style with Baroque elements.

The building was erected in 1819–1820 on the site of an older church that had already been mentioned in the 17th century. For many centuries, Kostolné Kračany was the religious centre of Kračansko and remains a place of religious life for the inhabitants of all twelve Kračany settlements.

The family crypt of the Bossányi family is located in the cemetery area in Amadeho Kračany. The locality also retains old residential houses with gabled roofs that are thatched with reed.

The Lurdská jaskyňa, a Lourdes grotto, is located near the church. A monument to those who fell in the Second World War stands at the entrance to the grounds of the Church of St. Bartholomew. Above the main altar hangs a 19th-century painting entitled “Ukrižovanie Pána Ježiša” (“The Crucifixion of Jesus”).

A statue of the academic painter and native of the municipality Róbert Almási (1948–2018), erected in 2022, stands by the municipal building. The Obecné dni festival is celebrated in Kostolné Kračany every year in June and is intended to strengthen cohesion and the identity of the people of Kračany.

An apparently preserved stone baptismal font in Kostolné Kračany is dated to the 13th century. The presumably medieval font is located in the grounds of the present-day Church of St. Bartholomew (Kostol sv. Bartolomeja), near its entrance.

Various forms of the traditional local character thus stand side by side in Kostolné Kračany. The church preserves traces of several eras, from the older predecessor already mentioned in the 17th century to the stone baptismal font dated to the 13th century and the 19th-century painting. The grotto and monument complement the church grounds with religious and commemorative elements. The family crypt in Amadeho Kračany, the reed-thatched residential houses and the statue by the municipal building extend this picture beyond the church grounds. The Obecné dni, celebrated every year in June, is also one of the named expressions of local community and identity.

Cycling route

The marked Baka–Kostolné Kračany cycling route is 12,600 metres long, flat and suitable for all types of bicycles. Near Gabčíkovo, it connects to the International Danube Cycle Route.
