The settlement is first documented in a record from 1260 under the name Poda Ety.

History

In an entry from 1455, King Ladislav V. transferred the settlement to Poda-Ethelom. The Póda family owned the settlement until the end of the 18th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, a steam mill was built in Povoda, which remained in operation until the beginning of the 20th century.

Povoda was formed in 1940 by merging the local districts of Povoda, Čenkesfa and Lidértejed. Since 1948, the Slovak name has been Povoda. The history of the village thus encompasses both its early written mention and later changes in the settlement structure and the history of its name.

The history of the village can therefore be read as a sequence of names, ownership arrangements, economic use and settlement reorganization. The name Poda Ety is followed by the entry featuring Poda-Ethelom and King Ladislav V.; the Póda family is then named as the owner until the end of the 18th century. The steam mill represents another time-limited phase, which began with its construction at the beginning of the 19th century and extended through its operation until the beginning of the 20th century. The merger of three local districts finally describes a change in the settlement structure, before the Slovak name Povoda was established in 1948.

Culture

Povoda is home to Kostol sv. Jána Pavla II., a branch church. The church is one of the village’s designated cultural and religious sites.

Since 2000, the Obecné dni have been regularly held in August as a two-day event. The Obecné dni feature an extensive cultural program and musical performances.

The Hodové slávnosti take place every year in April on the feast of Saint George. The Žitnoostrovská výstava and bonifikácia psov are also held regularly. Povoda is known for breeding pedigree dogs, making this area visible in the local events calendar as well.

The local club scene includes the football club FK Povoda, which is active in the village. In 2007, FK Povoda won the 3rd-class championship in the Dunajská Streda district.

Landscape

Zöldfa was historically a marshy area crossed at a small canal by means of a wooden bridge. The former Zöldfa marshland was drained and is now built up. The landscape here appears both as a historical setting and as an area that has changed over time.

Mobility

Bus route 201 418 runs along the Dunajská Streda – Kútniky – Povoda route. The connection thus lists Povoda together with Dunajská Streda and Kútniky on a designated bus route.

For bicycle traffic, a municipal proposal provides for a new paved cycle path from the waterworks on the Gabčíkovo-Topoľníky canal to Povoda. The planned route follows the existing embankment on the left side of the canal.
