Holiday apartment in Ohrady – Culture, Islands and Cycle Paths

The Roman Catholic Church of Saint Stephen the First Martyr is considered the oldest building in Ohrady. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Greek cross, the walls are decorated with frescoes, and ornate stained-glass windows complete the structure. It was originally a Gothic church from the 15th century; at the beginning of the 18th century, it was restored, extended with a transept in 1933, and remodelled.

Culture

Local culture includes the Ohrady women's singing group, which performs nativity plays and wedding customs. Another testament to the area's history is the Fehér kép wayside chapel. It stands at the end of Hlavná Street towards Dunajská Streda and probably dates from the late Middle Ages. The chapel has three semicircular niches containing modern images from 1991: Saint Wendelin, the Madonna and Child, and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

There are also named castles in the surroundings of Ohrady. Amadeovský kaštieľ is a castle in the vicinity of Ohrady, as is Pálfiovský kaštieľ. In the wider regional surroundings of Ohrady are Neogotický kaštieľ and Renesančný kaštieľ; both are castles.

Landscape

The meadows of Ohradské lúky stretch between the northern boundary of Ohrady and the village of Horné Mýto. Kürti-sziget is a small island on the edge of Ohrady, while Ostrov is an island in the vicinity of Ohrady. In the wider regional surroundings of Ohrady there are also the islands of Madarász-sziget, Új-sziget and Laci-sziget.

The Klátovské rameno, also known as Klátovský potok, runs through the cadastral area of Ohrady. It is a right-bank tributary of the Little Danube and, at the same time, a national nature reserve of the same name. The Klátovské rameno is a representative example of a meandering lowland river with rare aquatic and wetland communities. The fourth and fifth levels of protection apply to the area.

The Klátovské rameno is home to, among other species, fire-bellied toads, Eurasian otters, mute swans, grey herons, Eurasian coots and white storks.

Cycling

The signposted cycle-path section VIII/4 follows a flat 2 km route from Ohrady to Ohrady Ostrov and is suitable for all types of bicycles. Section VIII/4 connects section VIII/3 with the main route IX and continues from Ohrady to Ohrady Ostrov along a paved road.

The main route IX is 14,000 m long. It runs from Kútniky via Trhová Hradská, Horné Mýto and Ohrady Ostrov to Dunajský Klátov.

The route information distinguishes between a short, clearly defined section and a longer main route. This makes it possible to classify the connection around Ohrady both via the local section VIII/4 and via route IX, which runs through several villages, without equating the two routes.
