Dolny Stal: Holiday apartment between churches and folk architecture

Dolny Stal combines a remarkable cultural landscape with concrete opportunities for active days. The village is the second stop on the SacraVelo Route 3. Dolny Stal is also located on Road 63, the E 575, which runs from Bratislava to Komárno. These details connect the village with an interregional road connection, a cycle route and a local path section.

Road 63 (E 575) runs from Bratislava to Komárno. Separate from this is its classification as part of the SacraVelo Route 3: Dolný Štál is the second stop on that route. The cycle path from Topoľnianska Street to the cemetery, in turn, forms a separate local section and is 200 m long. The road, route and path each therefore indicate their own spatial connection to Dolný Štál.

Culture

A central place in the village’s history is the folk house of Dolný Štál. The municipality acquired it in 1973 from the last owner, Július Németh, established a municipal museum there and, in 1982, had the building declared a cultural monument. Today, contemporary furniture, agricultural tools and documents are exhibited there. The house also serves as an exhibition on peasant life and is considered a typical example of the peasant settlements of Žitný ostrov. It presents the folk architecture of the Danube region in southern Slovakia. The combination of a museum, everyday objects, documents and architecture makes the different dimensions of this place visible within a single building.

The religious buildings also give the village a multifaceted historical profile. The Roman Catholic Church of St. Martin was originally built in the Gothic style in the 15th century and has been a national cultural monument since 1963. It stands on Hlavná Street in an enclosed but accessible area. A visit must be arranged in advance. The Calvinist church is a Neoclassical building dating from 1786. Its tower was added in 1825, and the building was enlarged in 1886. The church is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.

A local market is located in front of the Culture and Sports Centre of Dolný Štál. The entrance is step-free.

These landscape features form part of the local surroundings and stand alongside the built heritage of folk architecture and church history.
