Folklórna Lysá is an annual folklore event held in the amphitheatre of Lysá pod Makytou. Traditional songs, music and dances are presented on this occasion. Folklórna Lysá also includes a crafts street and creative workshops for children.

One of the defining cultural sites is the Church of Saint Stephen in Lysá pod Makytou. It is a Neoclassical, single-nave church with an integrated tower; the main altar dates from 1824. Inside is an artistically valuable statue of the Seven Sorrows of Mary, created by the Kafkovi brothers from Moravia.

Further evidence of the area’s heritage is spread across various parts of the municipality and localities. Strelenka is home to a wooden bell tower dating from 1933. Lysá pod Makytou also has a former state school building from 1912. In the Beňadín district, there is a chapel in natural surroundings.

Landscape

Lysá pod Makytou lies in the Lýssky Pass at the foot of the Javorníky Mountains and the White Carpathians. The municipality’s territory encompasses hilly, upland and mountainous terrain. Elevations range from approximately 350 to 922 m.

As a Slovak border municipality, Lysá pod Makytou lies on the border with the Czech Republic. Outside the village centre, the landscape is characterised by 32 kopanice settlements. This settlement form is therefore just as much a part of the local character as the changing mountain ridges and the location in the pass.

Cycling

Route 5314 connects Lysá pod Makytou to a green road cycling route classified as REKREA. The route is 15.6 km long, runs on asphalt and has a stated elevation difference of 607 m uphill and 66 m downhill. Its starting point is in Lysá pod Makytou at an intersection with a red cycle highway.

The route 5314 ends at the Javorka saddle below Kohútka. There, it crosses the red Javornícka cycle highway. This route runs from Lúky pod Makytou to Lysá pod Makytou, crosses the road there and then climbs through the village streets.

The Javornícka cycle highway is designated as red route 053 for experienced mountain bikers. It is 19.8 km long and runs over asphalt, gravel and natural ground.

Activities

A publicly accessible multifunctional sports field on the school grounds in Lysá pod Makytou is available to children, teenagers and adults. It is suitable, among other things, for small-sided football, nohejbal, volleyball, tennis, handball and floorball.

During summer and autumn walks through the landscape of Lysá pod Makytou, you can find wild strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. With a little luck, bilberries can also be found in the Beňadín district. Another signposted route is hiking trail 8584 from Lysá pod Makytou to Makyta. It alternates between forests and meadows, passes through the Okrajkovci settlement and continues past a cross to the Hrnčár saddle. From there, there are views of the surrounding area.

Local winter sports include the Skipark Dešná ski resort. It lies within the cadastral area of Lysá pod Makytou and has two downhill runs.
