Holiday apartment in Záriečie between the Javorníky and White Carpathians
Záriečie is located at the transition between the Javorníky and the White Carpathians, northwest of the town of Púchov.
Landscape
Mestecká skala rises above the villages of Mestečko and Záriečie. In the rock crevice of the small castle of Mestecká skala above Mestečko and Záriečie, polished stone axes from the Bronze Age and a burial site were discovered. The 437-metre-high Mestečianska skala, also incorrectly called Mestecká skala, can be reached via a green-marked hiking trail. The trail begins at Záriečie railway station and leads via Hrebienok (759 m) to the Kýčera saddle (745 m) in the Lazianska vrchovina.
History
The local economic history has also been passed down through specific activities. In the 18th century, knife-making, work in a fulling mill, sewing slippers that were part of traditional costumes, weaving, carpentry and tanning were among the occupations of the inhabitants of Záriečie. Záriečie is also home to the birthplace of the ethnographer and museum employee J. Geryk, which is marked with a commemorative plaque.
Near the Evangelical church in Záriečie stands a monument to M. R. Štefánik, erected in 1935.
Culture
The Evangelical church in Záriečie was built in 1786 as a Toleration church without a tower on the site of a wooden church and was renovated in 1859, with 1856 also partly given as the year, and fitted with a tower. The building is a Neoclassical hall church with a roof turret; a Protestant gallery runs around the interior on three sides. The gallery houses a one-manual organ with nine stops, whose origins are estimated to date to the beginning of the 20th century.
The local culture also includes the Záriečanka folklore group, founded in Záriečie in 1995. It is characterised by self-embroidered traditional costumes, three-part singing, traditional dances and folk music. Záriečanka performs in Záriečie, in the Púchov Valley, throughout Slovakia and abroad, contributing to the preservation and presentation of the folkloric traditions of the Púchov Valley.
