Mojtín – Nature Monument, MTB and Skiing | Holiday Apartment

Mojtín is located in the Strážovské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The village combines marked trails, caves, cycling routes and winter sports with several historical landmarks.

Nature

The Mojtínska priepastná jaskyňa cave is located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Mojtín and is protected as a nature monument. The cave is 503 m long and 108 m deep. Here, you can therefore encounter a clearly defined natural area whose protected landscape also shapes the course of a local cycling route.

The Mojtínska jaskyňa served as a natural church for five years until the church school was consecrated in 1860. In 2005, the path leading to it was made accessible and renovated; a statue of Saint Joseph was placed inside the cave. You can reach the Mojtínska jaskyňa via a blue-marked trail towards Riedka, a signposted turn-off and then a short forest path.

Culture

The Parish Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Mojtín was built in 1863. In addition, a memorial plaque in Mojtín commemorates Ladislav Škultéty–Gábriš; above it is a bronze equestrian depiction. Thus, the village brings together a 19th-century church building, the history of the natural church and a specially marked memorial.

Trails

Route 5313 Čelkova Lehota – Riedka – Mojtín is a 14.9 km easy recreational MTB route. It has an elevation difference of 360/270 m and runs along asphalt, surfaced tracks and forest roads. The route ends in Mojtín near the local church. Most of Route 5313 passes through the Strážovské vrchy Protected Landscape Area.

There are also clearly marked connections for hiking. From Gombár, a part of Mojtín, a green-marked trail runs below the summit of Rakytník; a local path leads to a viewpoint. Another green-marked hiking route leads to Ostrá Malenica mountain, at 909 m above sea level. According to the map, the round trip takes more than three hours.

Winter Sports

SKI Mojtín has downhill slopes on the northern slopes of Javorina, Veľký Grúň and Malý Grúň for skiers with different levels of experience. In addition, SKI Mojtín offers a groomed cross-country ski trail starting and ending at Bufet Vŕšky.

Bufet Vŕšky in the Ski Mojtín resort offers refreshments, views of the surrounding natural landscape and a place to rest after skiing or hiking. Bufet Vŕšky also marks the start of an easy, 1.6 km ascent that takes approximately 45 minutes; two swings are attached to the structure.
